Purim Bash @ Terrace on the Park |

By Yulianna Yagoudaeva

Chag Sameach!
Happy Purim Two weekends ago was the
official weekend of Purim, the happiest most
joyful celebration for the Jewish People,
was the night of celebrations for our youth.
Dressing up as our favorite alter-egos
Bjoyers arrived at Terrace on The Park for a
night of unforgettable memories!
As the doors opened for the commencement of
the incredible party, history was in the
making. Piling into the penthouse of Terrace
on the Park, Bjoyers performed one of the
greatest mitzvahs of Purim, listening to the
Megillah. Rabbi Emanuel Yelizarov did the
honors and allowed for our party to start
with a spiritual and very uplifting note. We
thank him for joining us and allowing us the
opportunity to partake in this incredible
mitzvah!
Rabbi Nisanov gave a short speech on the
importance of Purim and of course to make us
giggle with his effervescent personality and
wisdom! Thank You, Rabbi Nisanov, for your
kind words and inspiration of the
festivities of Purim.
Aba and Sons Catering provided Bjoyers with
an incredible banquet-style dinner. While DJ
Legacy had the dance floor rocking with his
elating and exhilarating beats! But dancing
was not the only great source of
entertainment for Bjoyers. We were surprised
with the comedic stylings of Manashe Khaimov
a.k.a Manashe ByHarlem and his partner in
laughter Grigory Goncharov a.k.a. Grisha
from ComedyCola. The duo had been telling
jokes all over NYC, but could not miss out
the opportunity to party with BJOY! They had
the crowd bursting at the seams with their
hilarious side-splitting jokes. Thank You
Manashe and Grigory we are very grateful
that you joined our festivities!
The party was far from being over; DJ Legacy
threw a curve ball into the traditional best
costume contest. Every finalist chosen to
participate had to woo the crowd in order to
remain in the game. By the end only Superman
and 80s Dancing Queen remained as
finalists. Superman needed to win over his
Dancing Queen in order to claim first place,
but the Dancing Queen decided to take
matters into her own hand and walked away
with the grand prize of a brand new iPod
touch. No worries Superman you are still
our favorite superhero.
As DJ Legacy spun the final tracks and the
crowd lazily departed the Purim Party of the
Year came to an end. BJOY would like to
thank Terrace on The Park for allowing us to
party all night long, and Aba and Sons
Catering for providing the delicious feast.
Many thanks to ComedyCola and DJ Legacy for
providing us with the very best
entertainment all night long. And a special
thanks to Rabbi Emanuel Yelizarov and Rabbi
Nisanov for their inspirational speeches and
support.
Bjoyers I hope the party of the year will
live in your memories for many years. Stay
tuned for future events. Chag Sameach!

Family Purim Celebration |

By Zhanna
Beyl, Jewish Child Care
Association
February 21, 2010
JCCA's Bukharian Teen Lounge
and Bukharian Jewish
Organization of Youth bring
a colorful and exciting
family Purim celebration to
our community!
JCCA's Bukharian Teen
Lounge, an eleven-year-old
after-school program for
Bukharian Jewish Teens and
BJOY-Bukharian Jewish
Association of Youth
partnered together to bring
Purim to the families with
young children. This event
offered an opportunity for
both JCCA teenagers and BJOY
young adults to engage in
service, a Jewish value
deeply held by both
organizations.
JCCA and BJOY volunteers
worked side by side starting
early in the morning on
Sunday to transform a
library and a hallway on the
second floor of the
Bukharian Jewish Congress
into an inviting carnival
space. They set up stations
where children would make
beautiful masks and groggers,
get their faces painted by
the talented teen
volunteers, and even bake
their very own hamantashen!
Parents and children also
made fifty mishloach manot
(gift baskets) that will be
donated to the elderly
through the Meals on Wheels
program of the Queens Jewish
Community Council. This
activity offered an occasion
for parents to teach their
young children the value of
caring for the less
fortunate, the value so
deeply engrained in our
tradition. JCCA and BJOY
would like to thank Queens
Jewish Community Council for
the generous support that
allowed us to add this
meaningful touch to our
celebration.
After all the art projects
were finished and all the
hamantashen were baked and
eaten, a clown arrived to
add to the fun, to show some
of his magic, and to share
some balloon animals and
flowers.
When all the spidermen and
policemen, queens and
princesses, ladybugs and
butterflies went home, all
the colorful paper scraps
were picked up, the carpets
were vacuumed, synagogue’s
library was transformed back
to its original solemn and
serious look. As if nothing
happened! The photos of our
carnival tell the story.
We would like to express our
appreciation to the
following JCCA's teen
members and alumni for their
tireless efforts last
Sunday: vi Ariyev, Helene
Basalilova, Bella Galibov,
Ester Gavrilov, Elina
Kazieva, Naomi Krikhely,
Elina and Lisa Priyeva,
Shirley Sagirayev, Rosalina
Yakubova, and Dina Yusupova,.
We also thank the following
BJOY members for their hard
work and commitment: Oksana
Avizova, Arthur Gukasyan,
Shalom Gulkarov, Nadia
Kandchorov, Michael and
Roman Mavashev, Moshe
Shamayev, Alex Yagdarov, and
Lilianna Zulunova.
We are very grateful to the
Bukharian Jewish Congress
for providing the space to
have all this fun and to our
favorite newspaper the
Bukharian Times for
publishing our invitation!
Stay tuned for other
interesting and innovative
projects that will be
brought to you by the
collaboration between JCCA’s
Bukharian Teen Lounge and
BJOY.
